It's the journey that matters

I have worked in design for 8 years, focussing on UX and UI design for the past 3. However my route to where I am now has taken me through a number of different roles. Each has taught me something new. With a background in Building Surveying before studying design, I gained skills in project management, costing, and client liaison, all of which have been valuable to me as I have moved forward with my career.
I started out in graphic design with a greater focus on print, working within an integrated marketing agency for almost 4 years. This gave me a good grounding, allowing me to hone my layout and typesetting skills. Gradually the role evolved into a balance of digital and print work, and I have since steered my path into a more focussed digital role as a freelancer.
During the 3 years that I have been freelancing, I took the opportunity to expand my user-centered design skills by completing courses in User Experience Design and Product Design. I have since been able to apply these techniques to my recent digital projects.
